I have an XBox HD player and a plasma 720p HD tv. Will it play HD dvds ok or will it downconvert to 420p?

I notice that on the back of the HD disks, it says 1080p. Will this play in 720p on my tv or will it downconvert them to 420p? I have heard that the PS3 does this if you do not have a 1080p tv. It will downconvert blu-ray movies to 420p. I am not sure if this is correct or not. Also, what type of cable do I need to get the best possible picture? I have Dishnetwork satellite tv which is digital and have the HD channels. Should I get an HDMI Monster cable and if so, which one? Or would a VGA cable be sufficient as the HDMI cables are quite expensive. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Answer:
Itll play in 720p. You should get an HDMI cable. Don't get screwed by spending $$$ on a Monster, the cables nearly all the cables are fine. just make sure that its gold tipped. i picked up a Phillips for $25 at wal-mart and it works as good as any other.
