We are looking for a plasma HDTV 40-50". Any suggestion on what to look for or what brand is best?
Answer:
I'd choose the LG/Zenith models this year.they have a built-in Deburning tool.
Of course, other manufacturers have followed suit, so check with the salesman and see what other brands have this NEW feature.

I always go there to see what other people think of products before I buy.
You would want to get either a Pioneer or Panasonic Plasma tvs, they're the best.
Ahh, I went through what you are going through. We walked into the stores just to walk out depressed and confused. So, I subscribed to consumer reports and listened to the experiences of others. Consumer reports tests for the best large screed TV, is Toshiba, Hm196. It is the 62 inch. It is the HDTV, DLP, rear projection. From what I had seen, no plasma or LCD can compare to what this TV can do for you. Wow! I paid only two thousand for it on sale at Best buy. I would not want a plasma, having to deal with the plasma burn and gas leakage, one in every 10 made leak. This TV has an excellent standard picture to it as well. Samsung and Mitsubishi has a nice pic too. Don't judge with the picture you see in the store, they are hooked up all to the same line instead of independently, unlike those expensive plasmas. Remember, not all stations broadcast in HD so you will want a TV that has an excellent standard picture as well as HD when you hook up to it, and HD, oh wow! I do agree with the reports on this TV, it is an experience just to watch it! Also, the stand you will need is right there too, it is tempered glass, 3 shelves. Also, the TV weighs only 100 pounds. This TV is so life like, when watching football, my cat jumped up to go for the ball! haha. Another one of my cats ran thought the little brown and white dog in that comercial was chasin him. I tell you, go with this tv. Amazing! And for that price?? More screen, less green to pay out, and better TV as well! P.S. if a 50 inch is what your living room ill handle, go with the samsung 50 inch rear projection, ( DLP ) , it is HD as well.
I have a Panasonic 50" plasma and love it. I've had it for a little over a year now. I did extensive research on plasmas, DLP's and LCD's. In the end I chose my panny. Today, LCD's are gaining a lot of traction and you shouldn't exclude one from you search. When I was looking I was also told Panasonic and Pioneer is the best when it comes to plasmas. I was also told Panasonic makes displays (screens) for most plasma manufactures.
You can't go wrong with a Panasonic! Good Luck!
I have the 42" Panasonic plasma and I love it. It gets high marks in consumer reports and at online opinion sites. However, I did have to look for and use different settings than normal in order to get optimum picture. The TV is set up for VIVID and it is way too harsh.
Go ahead and get a plasma TV so you can throw it away in two years. Panasonic is #1 seller because nobody else (Samsung, Sony, etc.) makes this outdated technology anymore. Then after your screen gets burned out you can go out and buy a LCD TV.
here's a link on ebay where you can read reviews of them by ebay members.
