My TV has malfunctioned 2 months out of warranty. What are my rights?

Have been told about the sale of goods act, but I need it in plain english please

Answer:
if it is out of warranty you dont have any, sorry, shop around for better prices, dont go direct to manufacturer
You have no rights.

The TV performed perfectly during the manufacturers warranty.
I would doubt any rights - that's the whole point of a warranty period. I.e. mattresses are guaranteed for 10 years, because they'll last for 10 years. TVs dont last so the warranty is much less.
Regardless of the warranty, if the item is not 'as described' or breaks down within an unreasonable time frame, you can get a refund or replacement (whichever you choose).
Do not accept an answer from the retailer that the warranty is expired if the set is still fairly new.
An unreasonable time frame is subject to interpretation, depending on the item and the price you paid. If it's only 14 months old and you paid quite a lot, for example, that would probably be an unreasonable amount of time for it to last.
You don`t have a leg to stand on if it`s out of warranty. The repair is at your cost I`m afraid.
In plain English. Pay to get it fixed or buy a new TV. Those are your rights. Depending on where you purchased it, if you take it in and whine enough (politely) they may give you a reduced rate. However they are not obligated to. Some retailers will try to make it good for the sake of customer relations but some won't. Again, a bit of tact, a positive attitude and not yelling about what a ripoff it is will help your cause. Good Luck.
It suck isn't it. I'm in the services business so I know how you feel. Trust me you're not the only one to have this problem.
What you can do is give them a hard complain and tell them this is just two month over warranty and where are they caring towards customer.

This usually what other customer complain to us and we usually give 50% part discount and labor free.
In plain English... you're screwed. Always ALWAYS buy an extended warranty for a TV, because they're just not built to last. Most manufacturers are well aware that in order to sell new TVs they need the old ones to become obsolete or break down, and they build them accordingly.
Gav is pretty much correct. The TV hasn't really lasted that long and although you have no "rights" as such, it is worth writing a good letter to gthe manufacturers explaining that you are very disapponted with the service from the TV and gthey may respond positively. A couple of my customers have tried and succeeded, though one took some legal advice first. Try it and see. Good luck.
I work for a TV troubleshooting, warranty call center. And some companies will offer you a deal. They have whats called an out of warranty exchange. You send in the TV with a small fraction of the cost and they send you a new one. Try calling the company. Doesnt hurt.
