HD Resolutions - 2 Questions?
The same plasma's mentioned above also advertise as widescreens? but 1024x768 is a 4:3 format (not 16:9)?

I think you answered your own question. If you look in the back of your guide book for the TV it will specificall describe if it is HD, or maybe HD compatible, or HD ready.
If they say they are HD then they are. It's that simple, besides you are going to watch most television that is not HD which happens to be the majority of your channels on 480 or 720. Your digital HD converter will convert to 1080i when needed on the few HD channels that the cable company offers. I wouldn't worry about what you are reading with resolutions, because your can always alter the pic on your box and television. Just make sure that it is advertised as HD...if it is, then it is.
Yes, a 42" with 1024x768 is HD. All TV broadcasts are 1080i or 720p, so there is no issue.
In terms of pixels, yes, a 42" is "4:3". However, the pixels on the 42" are rectangular (on the other TVs they are square), so even though the pixel ratio is 4:3, the TV is still wide screen.
