How do I get rid of my old tv?
it's about 30 years old and it still works.
Answer:
With all these ANSWERS.why should I respond?
FIRST I like the "Charge Kids $5 to Whack it".but open it up 1st, pull off the board on the back of the tube, take a pair of pliers and pull off that plastic cap where the pins are, and pinch/crush the glass nipple between the pins to evacuate the vacuum. You can charge $10 to an adult for that (laughs) !!
Anyways, the recycle part is the RIGHT THING TO DO...
The SMART THING TO DO is to set it outside and hopefully watch it disappear.a sign on it stating "It works" will speed up the process of elimination.
Goodwill and TV repair shops have been taken advantage of by customers trying to avoid paying the recycling fee..That is no longer an issue as most TV shops will make you PAY the fee before you leave it...
See that curb outside your window.?
free-sine-om-sidewalk
Donate it to an adult mentally handicapped facility or to a veteran center - they love tinkering and the handicapped men will get such a feeling of accomplishment fixing it up. Or what about an emergency shelter organization like the Red Cross?
I don't know why goodwill wouldn't take it, but you can try another second hand store, like salvation army, or give it to someone that you know.
Call a TV repair shop, they should know where you can take it.
Try a local senior citizen day care, they may be interested. Or maybe a disability center could use it.
Try your local high school or tech school. Maybe they have a class that works on appliances and they can use it for practice.
How about advertising it on a radio program. Our local station has like a garage sale hour each day. It couldn't hurt to call them and ask.
Charge all the neighborhood kids $5 apiece for a few good licks with a bat or something. You make money from it and you can throw it away a little at a time and no one would ever have to know.
man, when goodwill won't even take it...
but there are options - you can have a garage sell. there are people there who'll buy anything for the right price (i know - i'm related to many of them). if it still works, you could probably get 5-10 dollars
set it on the side of the road - often people will pick up items such as furniture and appliances on the side of the road if they don't seem to be in bad condition (again, related to some of them)
give it to someone who likes antiques or electronics - somebody can probably find a use for it. and if nothing else, somebody who knows electronics may just want to take it apart for spare parts or fun (note - use extreme caution - tv sets have large capacitors that can give you a lethal shock)
God made trash cans for a reason.
Or whoever did, did it for a reason.
See the hammer, see the tv, see the trash can?
just put it outside your house on the curb or leave it on the side of the road somewhere
try to sell it on eBay lol
Cut a hole in the top and turn it into a fish tank - the fish will love it
there are recycling places that will take it . check with those who take computer monitors ,
sit it outside on your curb, i guarantee you it won't sit there for long.
Join a Freecycle group and give it away. Go to Freecycle.org and look for a group in your area and join the group. It's way easy and a great way to give/get free things.
