Why do we have to pay for hdtv?
Answer:
Keep in mind it is not the cable companies fault for charging such a high price for cable TV. you have to keep in mind that cable companies have to pay channel providers. To find out how much your cable company is paying for each channel look at you channel line-up and add about $.30 to $1.00 per channel not counting movie channels like HBO, PPV, and Adult the prices for these channels are around $4 to $7 per sub. This is what they have to pay to the channel providers per subscriber. So, if your town has about 10,000 cable TV subscribers you would take the number that you added up for the channel line up and multiple it by 10,000 that would be the cost that your cable TV company pays ever month to channel providers. Then you added the cost of the cable companies installers, techs, parts, head-end maintenance, tower maintenance, book keeping, and all that crap the number then is very high per month..
Now, for HD channels..If your cable company is charging for your locals that is crazy, but for the other HD channels the prices for these are much higher per subscriber..I hope this helps...
you r right greed is killing the world and hdtv is a rip off and screw tv!!
cause it takes alot of extra technology that someone has to pay for. you are paying for everything the cable company spends money on. if you are of drinking age you'd probably understand this analogy. well vodka=cheap, grey goose=expensive ones the better product clearly. im just saying the old addage is true, you get what you pay for.
Yes I agree it is unfair but the cost most companies, including the BBC, have to face at the present moment is to great to provide a free service; wait a while and soon you may find the price reduces as more people get HD tv's.
In the US, most major cities broadcast HDTV over the airways. If you have a HD tuner and a good antenna you can get HDTV for free. At least untill they decide to scramble the feed. Good luck in your area.
