Answer:
It really depends on what connections you are using in alternative to the HDMI. the biggest advantage is convenience in that one cable does all the video and audio. if you are using a seperate audio receiver, this doesn't do you any good since you will need to run separate audio cables to that anyway. The digital video quality is technically better, but if you are using component video you won't notice a striking difference. With directv, the signals are coming into the box digitally already, so there should be little or no analog interference anyway. I've noticed that my SONY grand wega tv seems to take longer to sync up with the various different HD signals when I use HDMI than it does when I use the analog component connections. If you are already using fiber optic connections for your audio, you won't get any improvement in the audio by using hdmi.
Does your DirectTV receiver have HDMI out?
If so, then it'd be a good idea.

But DO NOT BUY THAT MONSTER CABLE. It is a total ripoff. These are digital connections and do not suffer the problem of quality like analog connections do and don't need things like "gold tipped" and such. You can buy a perfectly good cable from monoprice.com for less than $10 [Monster's cable is at least $100]

But realize that without an HDMI receiver on your DirectTV box and the cable to your TV, you will not be getting any better quality teleivision than you already have now. It will just take your standard resolution signal, and just stretch it over the screen.

And it looks about as good as that sounds.
The TV that you are going to purchase has two component video input slots so you will not need to use an HDMI cable. The HDMI cable will provide the greatest quality but your DirecTV may not even support HDMI at this point. Stick with the component video input and if you are not happy with the HD quality, try the HDMI connection. I do not think you will see much difference, if any.
Monster Schmonster!

You got a free hdmi cable with every directv box you have! I have 3.

you plug it in and it works... great... you don't need any monsters!

If you misplaced your cable get a 15 dollar hdmi... if your tvs don't do hdmi, get a dvi -> hdml. if the tvs don't do hdmi or dvi, place ax in the screen and go shopping.

MMMMM HD!!
