Seriously, what's the difference between an expensive HDMI cable at Best Buy and a cheap one online?

$5 v. $40?

Answer:
no difference except price they all do exactly the same thing with the same quality
NONE!

It is a digital signal, so either it works or does not work! There no in between states. A 'better' cable will not give you a clearer/sharper picture!

I challenge anyone to prove me wrong!

It may make a difference for a long run, say more than 20 -25 feet as you may get signal dropouts. For short runs, it makes no difference.

It is like saying my printer cable is gold plated and better than a $3 printer cable... what's the difference if the printer prints.

The ppl at Best Buy etc are making more money on accessories.

Heck, I went to one Best Buy and needed a short Toslink Fiber cable and they said to buy the glass cable as it sound warmer! I shut the guy up after threatening to take him to his manager for lying to me. I am EIA/TIA certified for fiber optic cabling and what this guy was saying was a blatant lie! Glass fiber does not make your sound 'warmer' as they may claim!

Remember, most of these salespeople are high school dropouts or college students working on commission! If they knew what they were talking about they would be working for Sony designing audio video equipment making over $150K/year!
