Will my regular DVDs look OK on an HD TV?
I know there are HD DVD players coming out that will play regular DVDs, but will they look normal playing on an HD TV? I won't need to replace all my DVDs with HD-DVDs, will I?
Answer:
Basically the answer to the question is yes. Your TV has pixels and it adjusts according to the program on the television. Digital signal, analog signal, and HD signal. Your TV should and will adjust itself according to what is being played on the TV. So no worries. The only thing is you are transferring them form VHS to DVD so the picture quality will be from the VHS and not Digitally remastered.
Regular DVDs will look normal. HD-DVDs will look a lot nicer, but probably isn't worth the money to repurchase your DVDs. HD-DVDs have a huge file size, which is why the quality is so much nicer.
VHS to DVD will be a lot poorer quality than a regular DVD.
You can buy DVD players that will up-convert the picture for you, so it looks better quality than it would on a normal DVD player.
I have been told that the DVD players with progressive scan will enhance non-HD DVDs for playing on HD TVs. (Since you are copying to DVD+R and DVD-R you probably know that not all players use the same format.) BTW- we have HD capable TV with a regular DVD player. It works fine.
Yes. I just bought a HDTV and my regular DVD movies look great on it. Now I'm talking store bought DVD Movies. Not sure about the burned copies.
