What were the prices of Tv's?
Answer:
Actually more expensive than now, would you believe? As miniaturization of components and electronic 'boards' have evolved and consumerism has increased prices are way down for the average home TV...
I can't tell you...oh, I'm that old alright...but the last time I bought one was in 1983, and that was 24 years ago. I just retired it THIS LAST WEEKEND and bought a HDTV/Digital 27" tube flat screen for about $200 less than I spent in 1983 on the 25" Zenith console (the living-room kind built into a furniture cabinet of its own) which cost me $700...but THAT one lasted 24 years! Try getting that kind of mileage with today's TVs!
depends on the type of tv you are talking about. i know color tv's were very expensive in the 70s but as time went on they became chaper.
what type of tv are you talking about? how many inches? wood body or plastic?
a 20" tv of a known brand sold for:
--------- now sells for about $119.00
--------- 5 ago= about $159.00
---------10yrs ago=about $299.00
---------15yrs ago=about $429.00
---------25yrs ago=about$499.00
Back then the prices were high, BUT the TVs lasted LONGER!
Lower prices (Walmart Junk) Lasts 30days-5 years. Cheap!
Still buying a quality unit hasnt changed.
In the early days of TV, DuMont introduced the first large-screen tv sets, about 20" size, when most tv's were 10" or 12". They were in beautiful consoles, and cost about $3000 in the late '40s. You could buy a Buick or Oldsmobile for about the same amount.
