How do you hang up a 46' LCD TV?
Any non-sparkys out there who have attempted this project . successfully?
Answer:
I do it all the time. Just run the wires behind the wall. If your not comfortable doing it, hire a profeshional.
For hiding wires, you're best hiring a pro. Especially if behind the wall is a fireplace (even a gas one). You may also have local laws against having a non-pro put electrical wires in a wall.
It's easier, of course, to just get a track in which to bundle all the wires. They sell these at Home Depot, catalogs (I think Solutions or Improvements has them), etc. While you can still see the track running down your wall, it's not too bad. Especially if you paint.
Well the best way to start is to determine what the wall is...
IF IT's brick.bundle the wires and use a cover along the edge of the fireplace and try to paint it...
If you want to hide wires, pray you have drywall..Mark, then Drill a 3/4 to one inch hole BEHIND the TV set and NEAR where you plan on attaching wires to the inputs and AC plug...
Then go down to the bottom where you plan on setting your Video equipment and near an AC plug...Drill another 3/4 to one inch hole...
NOW...get a flashlight and have someone hold it at one hole and look in the other to see if you see the light.IF you do, GREAT ! If you don't...DARN !
You can choose to open that hole into a 3 or 4 inch square BEHIND THE TV if you don't see the light..they can be patched and repainted.
Nobody will know if you do it correctly...
If you want to, you can open the bottom hole larger too..either make it round or square as you can trim it out then. The top must be square for all the cables you're running as that is best for connections.the bottom really doesn't matter, but it should be opened up to at least a 2 inch square or round...
Make sure your cables are long enough..I suggest 12 footers...
NOW...if you can bundle ALL the wires together with Electrician's tape and insert it into the bottom HOLE.you're all set to pull the cables.IF NOT, then try separating them into 2 bundles and see if you can insert them one at a time.
Next you need to get a piece of string (or two - 1 per wire bundle from the top hole to the bottom hole..USE A COAT HANGER from the top and a LONG RUN of doubled over string if you pull 2 runs...
The point is to get that string from the top to the bottom..
You can try Bottom to top as only YOU will know which works best for the situation you're in.
Once you get the string from Point A to Point B..attach one string to the bundle by twirling the string around about 2 to 3 times and tying a knot...feed it in, and start pulling..you may have to wiggle left/right up/down and may need a 2nd person to assist in wiggling.if you're patient and don't pull hard on the string you should be able to get it to pass thru...
Once you get the cables up...consider enough SLACK so you can attach the cables easily and not stress the cables when you attach it to the DVDS and Cable boxes..(that's why I like 12 foot cables !!)
You may be forced to add an extension cord to the AC line, if so try to run that from TOP to bottom and use a Nylon Zip tie to secure the TV's power cord to the extension cable where they plug in together..
Now, the rest should be easier...Finding a bracket to hang the LCD should not be hard..IF you have no studs to mount it directly to USE the BEST DRYWALL anchor design to lock that mount to the wall..I suggest the METAL ONES you drill a hole, INSERT it, SCREW it down FIRST (over the plastic ones that simply widen the further the screw is driven in)
You should be ready to hang it...
Good luck..plan it out, then do it..
