What's the difference between LCD and Plasma televisions? Which one is better?
Answer:
True, they both make valid Arguements...
LCD is Liquid Crystal Display, orginally made for Computer as
Screens, LCD's are Lighter, Use Less Energy and are made for
still images (Start Menu) but, thats were the similarties End, The
First Generation of LCD's pixelated and could not create Dark
Colors, these have been fixed through Contrast Ratio and
Refresh Rate the Best Performing LCD on the Market is not the
XBR 3 but, the Sharp Aquos with 4ms Refresh Rate and on the
higher end model 15,000:1 Contrast Ratio. From a Consumers
Stand Point an LCD can do MORE FOR YOU, including the
ability to turn into a Computer Screen through a PC Input/VGA in
the Rear (Samsung, Sharp, HP and etc.) and producing No
Glare from Windows or Lights, also while using up to 60% less
power then a Plasma also if you've heard anything about 1080p it
is actually cheaper to create an LCD 1080p than a Plasma
because of it's Computer Roots, a Computer Screen is
768x1024, adding about 50 lines is nothing to an LCD, also an
addage to its PC Origins they will play Video Games without
Burn-In, in addition if it comes to a point where Sony does not
manufactuer Plasmas, that has to tell you something...
Plasma is the reigning HDTV King, it features Midnight Blacks,
Perfect Colors and Extreme Weight, in simpler terms a Plasma
is a Tube with the Image actually on the Glass instead of in the
Tube, hence the Burn-In, Plasmas are restricted to 720p which
is why a 1080p Plasma starts around $8,000 also Plasma's use
ALOT OF ENERGY and because of the Larger Surface Area you
receive a Larger Amount of Glare as compared to a Traditional
Tube TV, The First Generation of Plasma suffered from Burn-In
and a very short life, know they stay around 20,000 Hours also,
Plasma's Cant be fixed, if its broke its broke, you also dont want
to Play Video Games on them because of Ghosting (A form of
Burn-In) the Exception to this is the Samsung Plasmas with
Pixel Shift, Toshiba also uses a Type of Pixel Shift but, the
quality of there Plasmas have dropped, no if you dont mind the
Glare, Higher Energy Bill and dont like Video Games Plasmas
are for you and as for Manufactuers of Plasmas, Pioneer is the
Best Quality, many say Panasonic but, the Panasonics are the
best selling Plasma therefore they have a Greater Customer
Base...
Now as for which one is better, LCD, LCD all the way, some people might say it depends on what you're using it for but, with the advancements in LCD Technology, everything a Plasma can do, an LCD can also and still be used as a 52" 1080p Computer Screen, lol
LCD is short for Liquid Crystal Display which sits in front of a light source that uses electricity to angle the crystals in a certain way to display the colors, LCD uses a very small amount of electricity to run.
Plasma Tv uses two gasses usually neon and Xenon to create the color, by using electricity create plasma within the gasses which excite phosphors which emit light in certain ways.
Plasma is better for HDTV setups and on larger TV screens due to the larger viewing angles.
While LCD is better suited for PC monitors up to about 30 inches.
Here's an answer that is not cut and pasted from the web. The above guy was right on the differences, so allow me to touch on which one you should get. The answer is... it depends on what you need it for. If you are a gamer- definately LCD, Plasma's have a burn in problem, ie if you are playing a shooer, with a health bar at the bottom, that health bar will eventually get burned in, unless you have a higher end modell with pixel shift. Now, if you are a person like myself, who is into scifi, Plasma do excellent blacks, only tv's that do better blacks then Plasmas are standard CRT. They kick the but of LCD and DLP. Hope this helps.
