SP vs SLP?
Well we bought 6 hour tapes, but it says it is only 2 hrs normal and is 6 hours in SLP mode.
What is this? My VCR also has this mode but I have always used the SP mode (default).
Is there any difference and if so what would be different if I taped it in SLP mode?
Answer:
SP is standard play which means it uses the most tape but you get the best quality.
LP or EP is long play or extended play - should get about 4 hours out of one 6 hour tape. There will be some loss of video quality in this mode.
SLP or super long play slows the tape down the most as it is recording which allows you to get the full 6 hours onto the tape. You should notice a loss in the quality for video playback but if you don't mind that this is fine. I used to record a lot of the kids movies and shows this way as it cuts down on the number of tapes I had to buy.
On your remote control for your vcr you should see a sp/ep/slp (or some combo of those listed) that will allow you to chose the speed on playback.
When you set your VCR to do a timer record the vcr will give you an option of what speed to use when recording when you tell it what day/time/channel etc.
Good luck
SLP or EP means that you can get extended recording on a tape. So if you have a three hour regular tape then SLP mode will extend that to 5 or 6 hrs at the expense of video quality.
