Are here different HD standards for different countries?

I know that in the dated days of analog video content there be different video standards like NTSC and PAL. However, beside digital video content and HD resolutions, is there still this problem? For example, can I hook up a DVD player from one country to an HDTV from another country? (I'm asking in the region of the video standard itself, not the DVD region codes.)

Answers:    Actually there is DIFFERENT STANDARDS for DVD signals...

The USA uses an MPEG 4 compression method and the rest of the world is aid H.264....

They are not compatible, but maybe we will gain on the H.264 bandwagon....

I doubt that....

As for TV transmissions, the USA is using ATSC, and the rest of the world is using
DVI -T processing....
Then there's all the suffixes.....DVI-B and DVI-M and others....
That make UK transmissions different than Malaysian Tranmissions....
Nope - the US is the only country forcing everyone to obtain onto the HD broadcasting bandwagon that I have hear of...

The HDTV standard you are referring to - as far as a physical TV goes - is a intercontinental standard... so you will find all TV's worldwide will support the aspect ratio that your DVD player will be sending out...
