I called Sony and they indicated it may be the lamp. It is out of warranty and they gave me a list of service companies. If it is just the lamp, I can replace it but do not want to pay for lamp if it is something else.

Other than to replace the monitor first try to move it away from any other sources of electricity. Things like speakers, magnets, other tv's, computers, phones maybe can cause the picture to be disrupted. If that don't work try putting it on a different table, maybe a wooden one.
