My tv went out in a lightning storm last night. I have sound but no picture. Is it fried? or can it be fixed-?
Answer:
Always use a power filtration and protection.
Sorry Pal, your television is fried.
The good news is that it can be fixed. the bad news is that it may be cheaper to just buy a new television.
Too bad... American Idol is supposed to be kick-azz tonight. (j/k)
My friend had that happen. He called the repair man to get it fixed and it ended up costing him more than if he would have just bought a new one.
I would say so..it wouldn't be worth fixing these days. By the time you spend the money on parts and labor, you could buy another brand new set. I asked the same question to a tech, he told me the exact same thing. They just don't do repairs on tv's much anymore.
You got a power surge.
tv's have become throw aways unless your's is really expensive.but the one most of us have go to the dump.
Unplug the TV for 30 minutes. It may just be a circuit breaker that tripped in the TV. Good Luck.
A television has at least two different circuit areas, the input power circuit and the receiving of the TV radio freqeuncy (RF) signal. The RF circuit has two sub-sections, the video or picture, and the sound. Most of the time that a power supply fries, it is totally dead, but yours seems to be O.K. since you have sound. This would indicate that you have a dead video signal RF circuit. Yes, it's fixable, but the repair cost is high. If you have a cheap TV (27" or smaller), then its is a throw away. Donate it to a vocational school with a TV repair class. If it is a big plasma set, then you should consider fixing.
