been terrible, i have bought all new cords thinking they were old and useless, this hasnt fixed the problem what other things could be effecting it? could it be the splitter box?

Yes, it certainly could be the splitter box. Connect the second TV directly to the line, without a splitter and see what the reception is like then. If it is still bad, then the TV is probably broken. If the reception is good, then the splitter is bad.
