Go with an LCD as long as it is a good one like the samsung. Samsung has a better picture than sony and panasonic. I am very happy with my Samsung and I dont have any problems viewing it from any direction and the picture is superb.
LCD! plasmas have problems with burn ins, fade dramatically over time, and are significantly more expensive.
as for sony or panasonic, it's almost a toss up. see witch you can get a better price on. i personally would go with sony.

Panasonic usually ranks #1 in all consumer tests, so I would go with them. Sony is often overpriced and as lately been slacking on being a technology leader. Most people like plasmas cause of the bright color and the cheaper price. I have a 42" Samsung plasma and I'm satisfied, but I still think response time needs to be improved cause of the ghosting I get.
LCD- better, sharper picture and lasts longer!
PCworld magazine also agrees with everybody else that LCD is the way to go.
