Phillips tv?

i just purchased a 50" plasma, after one week of use, a quarter of the screen is black.

Answer:
ONE of the ribbon cables around the outside edge of the plasma display has come loose from it's connector..

The connector is designed so the ribbon cable lays down in a notch, and then the top is hinged down over the ribbon cable .It closes like a book or lunchbox does..

Make sure they are properly seated, you might need a real thin flat blade screwdriver to open and close the connectors.a 5/16 is about right for this...
I would call the place you bought it, tell them, don't ask them, to come & get that TV & bring you one that works right in every way. It's under warranty isn't it ? If that doesn't work, go down to the store & complain just loud enough that they can't throw you out, but that customers hear you complaining about this problem after ONE week. As soon as you know people are hearing this, keep asking what they plan on doing. If you get no where, say just loudly enough to carry a ways that your next stop is the BBB, with your receipt & info on the whole thing. I'll guarantee they will bring you a NEW TV, not yours, supposedly fixed. I went through this once, and it worked wonders. They hate when other customers looking around hear complaints about something you just bought a week ago. GOOD LUCK.
