Plasma or LCD?
Answer:
Dust eh? I wouldn't go with either one in "Dust Situations".You'll be calling the Techs out every other day to clean the optics.
IF you're in a DUSTY situation, and you WANT RELIABILITY..
Purchase a CRT PROJECTION TV..
Hitachi 51F59 is one GOOD EXAMPLE...
Forget both of those ... DLP is the way to go. Great HD picture, longer life, and half the price!
both can survive better...it depend on u...
Go check out a DLP picture. It is the way to go. With an LCD, you have to be facing the tv exactly from the front to see a good picture. You cant see anything if you look at it from an angle. Plasma has the risk of burning the screen if you play video games or watch the same programming. A friend of mine that has a plasma, watches the news every night and the same graphics at the bottom picture actually burned into the screen. So when he watches anything, he sees the channel 4 logo at the bottom of the screen. Also, ask your tv representitive how many pixels are in the plasma and lcd compared to the DLP. You will be surprised.
Actually, LCD is said to last longer than Plasma. If you are to chose between those two, get LCD...you won't regret it.
Now with DLP.cannot be wall-mounted...don't know if it matters to you. It's basically a projector.inside the TV. So they are huge but not as heavy. The images tend to be either too dark or too bright most of the time. Careful if you are to use it with a game console. Last thing...it's loud...for a TV, seriously.
Go look and see what TV YOU like the best. DLP's are great for some, not for others. Just keep in mind you will need to replace the bulb every few thousand hours and it's not cheap.
LCD's last a long time and are great if you want a bright picture and are seeking a 1080p resolution.
Plasmas are super for colors and an over all great picture. They do however have a glass covering that could cause some pretty unsightly glare.
Of couse if you want to wall mount it DLPs are out.
LASTLY you might want to check out Sony's SXRD tv's. They are similar to a DLP where you can not wall mount it, but some people really like the way they look. (Me being one of those people)
i have a 40 inch lcd olevia, its not the top rated but the price was good and it looks great. plasma like the guys said have a real burn in problem, also i was going to buy one from circutcity and i told the guy to put it in the back seat he said " if the screen go's flat in the car it can ruin the picture" i did'nt buy it needless to say. dlp is good, but it has a bulb like a light bulb that if it burns out it'll cost you 200 to 300 bucks.. yeah and my lcd you can use a computer hook up to it, play your games, surf and other things haha
i myself would choose lcd over plasma.
lcd has less chance of burn in, usually costs less, and the lamp lasts much longer.
now as a few people said, forget 'em. they're old news. DLP is the way to go. why? 'cause it's better in every way. every way. and that's about it.
