I have a Mitsubishi HD-TV model # WS-48311 with messed up Vertical hold, how can i fix it myself.?

My TV is a Mitsubishi WS-48311. It turns on fine and plays sound fine, but the picture jumps up rapidly. It is like an old tv with the Vertical hold messed up, but there is no vertical hold knob to change. I cannot look into the menu on the tv to see if there is a V hold, because it jumps too fast to read the menu. I have opened up the back pannel, and the only adjustable knob is for the R G B colors and their focusses, but no vertical or horizontal hold. I need help, but want to do it myself and not have to pay 200$ for someone to come out. Thanks.

Answer:
Well first..go out and buy a $150 Weller soldering iron with a PTAA7 or PTR7 tip, so you can SAFELY solder the Vertical circuit without damaging the copper solder pads.

Now practice makes perfect, so find an old electronic piece of junk around your house and practice soldering for a smooth bright finish on your solder joints...anything less will crack again in short time.

Next, go to Http://www.mcminone.com and find some solder and some solder wick.you'll need to remove old solder and replace it with new..about $30 for both.and use 63/37 eutectic solder. It has no plastic range, and is best for NEWBIE solderers..

Let's see. That's about $180.00 in equipment and materials.

Next, go in and inspect the Vertical circuit for cracked solder.resolder them, but BEFORE applying power, MAKE SURE THERE IS NO SOLDER between the pins of the vertical output ! NO bridging allowed!
Don't forget to touch up the power supplies.the Low voltage won't need it but the HIGH VOLTAGE always shows "heat stress" on the resistors...
Now carefully put all the connectors back into their correct plugs.if you plug one in the wrong connector, you'll smoke the board or part of it...

Now apply power...if it doesn't smoke, you might be okay.and look at the picture...IS IT OK? If so, you're done.

IF NOT, then go back to www.mcminone and order a Vertical output IC, replace all caps around the Vert IC and replace the IHVT power supply's resistor which may be opened.

ANOTHER $30...just hit $210.

And hope and pray you don't have to replace the Video IC, which may actually be the only problem. and the Vertical IC was NEVER the problem..All that money down the drain.

Another $50 to $70.$280..

OF course, you can verify all these possibilities with just one thing...AN Oscilloscope!! MCM sells those too..about $400 for the cheapest one I've seen.

Then you can look for the SAWTOOTH signal from the Video IC to the Vertical IC.if it's there, it's the VERTICAL or the power supplys to the vertical.if not.time to get the Video IC..NOW hope and PRAY it's not a postage stamp-sized surface mount IC...because if it is...you're going to have to go back to MCM and purchase a Hot Air Surface mount Soldering STATION !! Hmmmm..about $700 if I remember.

$1380 total if you have to do it all.

Now $350 for a TECH to come out and turn it around in about 2 hours or 2 weeks..does it sound bad to you ??
Not me..
