I have connected using a VGA male to male cable plus a sound cable but get a blank screen on the PC channel of the TV. Is there some form of tuning that I have to do to the TV or something that I have to enable on my Laptop in order to view my laptop through the telly.. your tech expertise gratefully accepted

Fn + F12 - Toggle the display between LCD, CRT, LCD+CRT and TV on your laptop
The advent 7100 has an S-Video output on it so just plug that into the s-Video on the TV and switch that over to the proper input and then go to your display properties on the laptop
and enable TV output if it isn't already and you may also have the option to use the TV as a second monitor or just use it alone. go to uktsupport.co.uk and they have the manual right there within there site.
