I want to buy a new television, a large one which one is the?

the best LCD or Plasma ??

Answer:
If you have the cash, buy a RUNCO. Not many people know about Runco, but they are one of the best televisions money can buy.

If you don't have $7K for a high quality Runco. The next best thing is the Sony Bravia.

I have both styles of TV's that I consider quality, plasma and LCD. You CANNOT go cheap when buying a LCD TV. The cheaper LCD televisions have a single processor chip in the tuner and usually will be slow to grab and maintain a fast sequence in an action shot. If buying an LCD TV you must get a 3 chip LCD. The additional 2 microprocessors allow for a seamless transition in fast moving action sequences. Knowing this I would suggest the 40" Sony Bravia engine TV. I have one and the picture is phenomenal.

Plasmas that are manufactured today no longer have the issues that many plasmas had in the past, i.e. burn-in and short life spans ( usually around 60,000 hours).

If you are on digital cable you can get into a plasma monitor for around $800, but the TV will require a digital HD tuner. This is usually provided with your local digital cable service if you get the HD packages, and most now come with TiVo built into the tuner. If you live in a densely populated area, LA, NY, Houston, Chicago, etc. you can purchase a HD broadcast antenna for around $100 and capture HD signals (over-the-air) for FREE and I get around 35 stations in Houston in HD. If you plan on going this route, you will have to have a digital HD tuner in the TV.

Plasma is definitely a great picture, but I have chosen LCD because over the entire life that I own the TV I will only have to purchase new bulbs about every 3 years and I will have a quality picture.

When shopping for Televisions remember one thing, unless you have HD Direct TV, you will not ever get a true 1080i picture. The existing infrastructure (how you get the signal to your house) for most cable providers is not able to carry the bandwidth that is needed for a true 1080i picture. You are better off spending the money on the tuner that produces the best "up-scaling" (brings the inbound 720i picture, and "up-scales" it to 1080i).

Now that HD has been accepted by most consumers and TV manufacturers, we will simply have to wait for our local cable providers to upgrade their current technologies to deliver the picture quality that most Americans are looking for while watching TV.

Hope this helps...I cannot stress enough to continue to research everything about HD, before going into you local consumer electronics store and getting a substandard TV that you will have in your family room for years to come, only to wish you spent the extra $300 to get the better set.

You get what you pay for..
300" Toshiba
LCD - more reliable, lasts longer, cheaper to buy plus LCD's use less electricity so are good for reducing the old carbon footprint.

I got mine from this site. They offer a 3 year warranty and the service is brilliant. The TV quality is spot-on too.
