What causes a buzzing sound inside a television? How can I fix same? Thanks much?
Answer:
From your description a low pitched buzz can only be lamination rattle , this come from any transformer ( except the flyback transformer , more of a high pitched squeal from there ) , could also come from the deflection yoke from the vertical windings , If you can find the source you may be able to effect a cure by packing a wedge in between the winding and the core . How ever we may be getting into deep water here so enlist experienced help if possible !! Cheers Pete
Scratching or buzzing may mean...it has a loose part inside the television and may need ot buy a new one.how old is it?
6 years old w/ a regular tube?
Could be a leak in the high voltage leads to tube from transformer is giving a snapping buzzing sound.
Dust can sometimes make it easier for arcing to occur.
Between the estimate & parts/labor charges it could be pricey & time to look for a new set.
Give a repair shop best description of symptoms & see if they will give a firm repair price if it looks like you have a HV problem.
Been down that road.
If you have never fixed TV's, don't attemp to fix this one. It's a very dangerous thing to do, even if the power cord is unplugged. Take it to a service center, maybe they can do something about it, or maybe it's just time to upgrade.
The buzzing sound is probably being caused either by the high voltage transformer, called the flyback transformer, or the deflection yoke. These are common problems that can often be corrected by reseating the transformer or with silicone.
Turn down the SOUND on your TV...is the buzzing gone? IF so...then you need a sawtooth filter in the TUNER/IF circuit replaced.
Still buzzes with Sound turned down all the way?
It could be several things..
Clear picture, but buzzes could mean the Transformer's iron cores could be vibrating and require replacement or regluing.
Bad picture/lines in picture would indicate a dryed-out filter capacitor needs replacing..
All problems really indicate the need for a TV technician to come out and service the TV.
