Will a 1080p picture look as righteous on projection?
Answers: I have a Samsung 40" LCD (high contrast bordeaux model) and an Epson projector (TW1000) - both are 1080p. In a darkened room, nil looks as good as the projector. The picture is extremely credible (especially after calibration).
[edit] For Eli's long response, he really didn't give any perfect info. If you want a "holy sh!t" picture, then progress with the projector (provided you can control the light). The room doesn't own to be pitch black, but the darker the room, the better. Also, get hold of a good blind to go near it - get any peak to go next to it and you'll be better off than simply using a white sheet, or a flat white wall.
LCD and Plasma will fail to impress contained by comparison to the projector - every single time. My LCD is the best model available here, and my friends think it is great, but their jaws drop and they can't believe their eyes when I fire up the projector.
[edit] Oh, don't do that... you'll be downgrading from your Sony if you budge with any DLP product. The Sony uses SXRD (LCOS), which is every bit as well-mannered as LCD (some would say better). The problem next to DLP is that you'll have the dreaded rainbow effect no thing how many colors they conserve on that wheel (or anything other rube goldberg crap they throw in). The only approach around the DLP rainbow is 3-chip, and then you're chitchat 30,000 USD for a freaking projector. If you want rear projection, stick beside Sony, but calibrate the image. Sony runs oversaturated on adjectives colors.
i don't know about projection but I in recent times bought a Sony Bravia 52" LCD 1080i/1080p and the picture is absolutely amazing. Granted it be 4k but if you have the money, I notably recommend it. My 2 cents.
