The ratio of the HEIGHT and WIDTH of your TV are likely
NOT EQUAL
to the HEIGHT and WIDTH of the MOVIE.
Therefore there's no way to display the image (without distortion) without the bars, which make up for this inequality.
Think about trying to post a SQUARE PICTURE in a RECTANGULAR PLACEHOLDER.

BTW: Full Screen DVDs are NOT the answer,.. you actually sacrifice a portion of the original image in order to "fill" your screen!
It's better to TURN OFF THE LIGHTS and/or get accustomed to the bars,... LOOK AT THE IMAGE -- not the TV!

Nope, they still have the black bar.
We have a really nice widescreen that my husband bought last year, and unfortunately the answer is depends. Depends on the movie. Most fit perfectly, but there are quite a few (more cheaply dvd'd, I'm guessing) that don't.

Depends on the aspect ratio of the DVD. Not all widescreen DVD's use the same ratio, so some will have bars. The ratio for widescreen tv's is 16:9 and most widescreen DVD's are 16:9 resulting in no black bars.
Depends on the movie and your screen. Most widescreen movies are either 4X8 or 16X9. If you have for example a 16X9 screen then the 16X9 movie will fit correctly with no black bars. Hope this helps.
there are widescreen versions of movies that no matter what kind of tv you have are going to have those bars, you can rent the regular screen movies, generally places carry both copies
You need to get Full Screen DVD's to keep from this happening. Wide screen actually is the way the original movie was made. For a wide screen like a theater screen. I never get wide screen unless that is all they have.
no, i spent $2,000.00 on one of those tv's and the black line still shows.
