I of late bought and hdtv. I necessitate a vcr/dvd combo to hook to this using simply the cable rope, no cable box. Help
Answers: Both these units will journal your cable's standard analog TV. Neither will record any digital TV rotten your cable. You don't state the model number of your TV, so I don't know if it is capable of displaying anything save for your cable's standard analog TV, either. So, unless your TV have a QAM tuner, you won't be getting HDTV. These DVDRs are capable of pulling surrounded by OTA HDTV using an antenna, as is your TV. Any recording done, DVD or VCR, would be contained by SD.
Update
I couldn't find your model on Sanyo's site. This may be a special model sold through a discount store. They frequently sell beside different model numbers to make it more difficult to compare against their standard models. It's unlikely you hold a QAM tuner. So you can hook-up your cable to the VCR/DVD, hook-up your TV to the VCR/DVD through the RF port and watch standard analog cable TV. If you hook-up your VCR/DVD or TV to an antenna, you can keep under surveillance OTA digital TV, including HDTV. I suugest you also connect your VCR/DVD to your TV using a component cable and red/white RCA audio cables for use when watching the VCR or DVD. With an upconverting DVD, you'll bring back a better picture.
Finally, a better set-up would be to split the incoming cable signal with a splitter sending one signal to the VCR/DVD and the other to the TV. You would after watch the TV directly and the VCR/DVD can be used minus interfering with the TV. Viewing of the VCR/DVD would be through the component cable, as above.
Yes, you would probable use a simple composite cable (the kind beside the red, white, and yellow prongs) to hook the VCR/DVD combo to the TV. Instruction manual are usually very pious about showing you where on earth to place them, and the connectors, also, are labeled on the back of both the TV and the VCR/DVD component, so it should be easy...easier than it would be if you have a cable box.
