Philips TV?

I have a chance to get a slightly used flat tube (20 inch) TV.. Anyone have any comments on Philips TV's.?? I know of the company, and they make incredible hospital equipment, but I don't know about their TV dept.!!

Answer:
Many years ago Philips had an international reputation for quality in Tv and radio, then they did what most manufacturers did, they found that quality is very pricey so they moved their assembly line to cheap labour country's like Taiwan, China etc, they could now compete price wise but at the cost of quality. Not only Philips have gone down this path but many other well respected brands, Akai and Teac among them !
Component failure was not the problem with Philips but they suffered from bad soldering for years, this was due to too much copper in the solder that was used caused by using recycled solder !!.
Short answer -- forget the Philips ! Cheers Pete
I wouldn't buy a Philips TV, especially used. You didn't say what the price is, but, if I were you, I'd put that money into a new LCD TV. Tube TVs, even new ones, are almost being given away, so I would really think it over before you buy something someone else is dumping, and going new, like I think you should do. That's my honest answer.
I've got a 27in Phillips tv and a phillips surround excellent quality no problems I wouldn't pay more than 40 or 50 for that tv though.
I would first check it out. Does the tv play in color and sound okay? Are there any problems after it runs for a while?
Let it play for about 15 minutes. That will give you an indication if everything is okay.
Phillips makes excellent quality tv's. I don't see any reason why you shouldn't buy one that is slightly used.
I wouldn't pay more than about $30-50 dollars for it though. Remember there is no warranty!
If you can get it for less than $40 its a deal. Any more than that I would say stay away.
Go for it!
I have a Phillips thats been in service since the 90's.
I want to upgrade to a newer tv but they picture quality is just
so good I don't want to give up on this tv.
