Thin green procession across TV very soon picture wont work , merely the nouns, how to fix it?
Answers: Sounds similar to the Horizontal Oscillator circuit has messed up. This circuit not only generate the signal to create picture width; it also is piece of the high voltage generator that produces the voltages critical to operate the picture tube. No horizontal oscillator, no picture. Period!
It would require a technician to fix; but as the set is 8 years old, it may not be worth fixing. The labor costs a short time ago to open the subsidise of the set, to see if it is repairable, might not be worth it. This might be a good time to update yourself to a tentative HDTV as well as the exotic warranty that comes with it.
Under NO circumstances should you unseal the back of your TV and try to troubleshoot this yourself. As it say on the back of the TV, "There are no user-serviceable parts". You could find seriously hurt by some of the residual voltages still present inside the set, even if it is unplugged.
Could be cold solder connections in the TV or could be the picture tube going doomed to failure causeing the video circuit to shutdown.
If the picture comes on for a moment then its imagined not a bad horizontal output if it be this the tv would not come on at all , sony picture tubes blank the video if one or more of the colors are starting to progress bad. What is stirring is that it monitors the AKB (automatic kine bias) and if it detects a failure it blanks the picture
