Cable Box Toslink Cable?
Answer:
This is an easy one.
You need to connect the Optical from the set-top to an AV Receiver (Home Theater) NOT to the TV.
The s/pidif on the TV is OUT only (connect to an AVR as well).
So connect stereo audio (red/white) from set-top box out to audio in the TV (make sure you connect to the audio input that corresponds to HDMI - it can be its own RCA audio or the PC audio input)
I'll BET that the optical connector on your TV is an OUTPUT and NOT AN INPUT..
AND I'll bet you'll be forced to use the COMPONENT INPUT on your TV.DVI was a "Picture only" cable, and it used a set of Stereo RCA cables for the sound.
HDMI is "PICTURE AND SOUND" input, which means your TV is LOOKING for the Sound signal on that HDMI connector!
So, you're forced to use COMPONENT input...but don't worry, the signal quality is the same between the two.
You can save that HDMI input for your Toshiba HDA2 DVD player (HD!) and use the OPTICAL OUTPUT on the TV to Amplifier connection.
