No sound from tv!?
So with no changes or moving to the TV, I can't figure out what could've happened to the sound!
My tv in another room works fine - so it seems that the cable is working.
I'd appreciate all help on troubleshooting before I cave in and buy a new TV.
Answer:
OK FIRST...Both the cable box AND your TV can lock up and cause NO SOUND.except for that hiss you're hearing.
So, UNPLUG BOTH UNITS FOR FIVE MINUTES, and then plug them back in and see if you still have the sound missing.
NEXT, if there's no sound, look on your remote control for the MTS button.if you press it and it says SAP on your TV screen, keep pressing it until MAIN pops up on your TV. That's for MAIN sound, SAP is for Separate Audio Programming.
After checking those, then you can cave in...
I don't think you need a new tv yet. it sounds as if a comopnent in the front end of the audio amplifier for the tv has 'blown'.
Does your t.v. have any outputs for speakers or RCA outputs for another amplifier? If so, try plugging those nto another amplifier. If they work, then you can probably assume that the audio needs repair. That's a sign that the amplifier is old.
It's also possible that on older tv's, something as simple as a solder joint could have been damaged from the heat.
Try to bring and connect to your TV the set-top box or any other source (DVD player, VCR) to your TV (maybe from the other room). If it works, then the problem is your set-top, if not , then it is the TV.
after checking those, then you can cave in. and take it to a repair shop ! Cheers Pete !
