Does leaving electrical stuff on standby use alot of electricity still?
Answer:
If it's rated "Energy Star" compliant, it consumes less than 1 watt.
If it's not ES-compliant expect about 5-10 Watts.
Now, let's look at the worst case.
10 watts x 24 hours per day x 30 day a month = 7200 watt/hours
That's 7.2 kilowatt-hours and at 10 cents per kilowatt-hour you're spending a WHOLE 72 Cents to keep that in standby.OR only 7 cents for energy star units..
I'm sure the Sony Bravia TVs are the 7 cents a month units.
I don't know how much electricity a Sony TV uses specifically, but I can tell you that most appliances use as much electricity on standby as they do when they are switched on.
Not sure about the Sony but on average you could run a 60 W light bulb for 6 months instead of leaving tv on standby 24/7 for 12 months.
So if you turned all appliances off instead of leaving them on standby you could save quite a bit of money and help a little the problem of global warming.
not a lot but enough, but worse if the item on stand-by is in a cabinet it can generate heat.
Qurm_Kim is right it will use as much as it would if it was turned on that goes with any equipment
If you watch TV, then you must know the answer to your own question
No. They use as much electricity as a night light. You consume the most electric when your TV or monitor is actually on. Standby does keep the machine running so it will generate heat.
You are better off leaving things on standby than constantly turning them on and off. The start up and shut down of equipment can cause you equipment to wear out sooner than it should.
Every electrical product, if left on standby, uses quite a significant amount over time. Do what i do and just turn it off at the plug when not ib use. You "will" save money and not be "wasting" energy. Millions of us all around the world leave them on standby. I'll leave it to you to do the math.

Although that handy Kill-A-Watt device might do a number on showing you just how much energy your array of consoles and AV equipment is sucking down each time you power up, it won't do much anything to stop the electrical bleeding. Enter Domia, which offers up a full range of Bye Bye Standby products to shut off power en masse to home or office electronics. Essentially, the lineup of products provides specialized, wirelessly-enabled Smart Socket middlemen that can connect to wireless toggle switches via your PC, a wall-mounted "Green Switch" button, a cordless remote, or even a voice recognizing microphone. By switching the channels on your sockets, you can power down up to four (or more, if using a power strip) devices at a time, and each allows you to manually override it if you decide to crank one or two back up. If you're curious about just how much loot you'll save by powering down your pad whenever possible, Domia estimates a £40 ($79) savings "for a family of four," but for those of you already stingy with the light switch, the benefits could be marginal. Notably, this product appears to play nice with UK-based power outlets only, and considering the British wishes to outlaw standby buttons entirely, you may want to hold off of this here £29.99 ($59) purchase until the politics shake out
Cant remember how much it is, but calculated over a year worked out to be an evening dinner for two!! Not maccy d'S either.
