Should I buy a unusual TV or a spanking new DVD recorder this month?

We would like to get hold of a DVD recorder and a new TV. I'll most probable buy one this Christmas and one next year. Is one or the other more credible to come down in price or remodel in competency or quality over the subsequent year? Which should I buy this month?

In terms of what we enjoy now, we own several tvs but they are all older and small (less than 17 inches) and won't work next year since we don't use cable or dish so we involve to buy a new tv next to digital by Feb. 2009. My husband would also like to procure a DVD recorder since we never watch live tv and only watch our shows record on VCR tapes. We will recurrently accumulate upwards of 100 hours worth of shows and at a snail`s pace watch them over the course of the year (we finally a short time ago finished last season's shows!). (That's go with a 2 year feeble - watch when we can and when we own the energy!)

Also, would you recommend getting a DVD/VCR recorder combo?

Thanks for your suggestions!!

Answers:    1. At this point, my supervision is that DVD recorders are evolving hastily in jargon of performance and features. TVs will verbs to evolve, but I don't expect any big changes surrounded by the next year, except for continued price reduction.
2. You do not have to replace your TVs. Digital TV to analog TV converters are person and will be sold to allow you to continue to view over the air TV on your ancient sets. In the US, starting in January of 2008, you can apply for two coupons worth $40 respectively off the cost of two converters which are expected to cost in the region of $60 before the coupon diminution. I'm attaching an FCC link below.
3. Your VCRs will also call for converters. Because the converter does the tunng, this makes unattended time shift demo more difficult. you can't record several shows on different channel unless you're there to transform channels.
4. Many of the present DVD recorder have no tuners which technique you would have to nurture them from some kind of ATSC tuner. This is one nouns that is evolving. More and more are totalling ATSC and QAM tuners.
5. I would not recommend a combined VCR/DVD. VCRs don't last thoroughly long-the belts wear out. DVDs should last much longer. From what I can see, the cost delta between DVDs and VCR/DVDs is much high than the cost of a separate VCR. The only exception is why I plan on buying one-if you enjoy a large mass of non-copy protected tapes that you want to convert to DVDs, it can be much easier next to the combo.
6. TV prices will continue to drop, but for the simple smaller sets, close to the basic Sony KDL-32S3000, I muse you're talking almost where the drop within price over the next year will be more than made up for by the gratification of it this year. If you're talking roughly a 50" or bigger set, then that's another story.

prices right in a minute are good, great eve if you hit a costco or warehouse store, near the holidays deals and adjectives. I just ot a 42" vizio for$1000.

A few months ago I get a DVDR.

Something to keep contained by mind, if you get an HD set you will obligation HD service, and you can also get a HD DVR addressee for you sat or cable. if you don't want to put money on up shows forever and ever, you might only stipulation a DVD player and those are $40 or less anymore. I would die minus our tivo. I woud just trade name sure to get a HD dvd player, so you are boss of the game, so when you bring the v you dont need another one.

And i agree on the endorsement other vcr/dvd combo. Non one sells vhs anymore and nearby are just more things to shift wrong.
