If this DLP TV you had bought stopped working, would you pay $150 for a bulb or would you trash it for another
Do you think buying the bulb is throwing good money after bad?
Answer:
I'd make the manufacturer pay for it. The lamps should last at least a few years. Just call their consumer affairs line and complain (in a diplomatic way) and tell them that you're disappointed and considering switching brands. Ask them politely if they would send you a new lamp to insure that you remain a loyal customer. If you work with them, they will usually work with you.
NO I don't -----BUT !!--- I purchased a SAMSUNG 61 in. DLP set 3 yrs ago. The "bulb" burned out in 2+ yrs & warrenty covered this $300 part free & I swapped the mounted unit myself Ok. Now major OTHER problems ( color wheel motor ++++ ? IC's ) caused total failure ! I loved the pix , BUT have waited now for3+ months for My "extended " 3 year warrenty (cost$500.00 ) to return repair from CIRCUIT CITY in SAN DIEGO area. Says "waiting for parts " ! Maybe DLP has gotten better, but BE CAREFUL ! The alternatives have major issues too, eg : PLASMA cant be laid over flat ., runs hot ,& as with LCD has a limited life on the display components. The "bulb" on DLP will come down in price, can be easily "home swapped" repaired , & is MUCH cheaper than other display failure costs. Other parts of the DLP should NOT have failed as mine did ! More when the set is returned---in weeks ? KEEP TUNED !
Which is cheaper? THE BULB..
And at $150 that's an INEXPENSIVE BULB..Are you buying it from the MANUFACTURER?
I've seen some bulbs for that LOW price that are not as reliable...they blow within weeks!
Be careful where you buy that bulb...
As for a freebie from the Manufacturer..it's worth a call to them.
Bulb replacement is a fact of life for DLP tv's. It is a small price to pay for a large screen projection tv. If that is all that is wrong with it, I'd buy a new bulb.
