My TV is "HD compatible"--what do I need to make it High Definition? Where do I buy what I need?
Answer:
TV Guy told you what you need, but probably didn't tell you where to buy because you didn't mention where you are. If you are in the USA, and are looking for an over the air HD tuner, then Circuit City or Best Buy might be a good place to look. Or, you could shop online at Amazon or Buy.com. If you are considering satellite, got to directv.com or dishnetwork.com. Otherwise, just consult your local cable provider. Outside of the US, I'm not sure what to recommend.
It probably means it has no tuner. (another word is HD ready).
You need an HD Set-top (cable or satellite) or an off-the-air HD receiver.
You have to check with your cable/dish provider to see what HD packages are available. They are special channels...not all channels are broadcast in HDTV. We have one too, but there just isn't enough available that we are ready to waste the money on it yet.
Some TVs are digital and HD-ready, meaning you can add an HD Tuner some time to be able to receive HD signals. These are called HD-Compatible or HD-ready. ONLY a TV which is labelled " HDTV " has a built in HD tuner when you buy it,and is therefore able to receive the HD signal , just the way it is.
