Can 1080p be displayed on my 1080i tv?

I have a LCD HDTV, and on the instruction book it says that it can display up to 1080i. But when i set my ps3 to output at 1080p, the tv say that it is displaying 1080p and so did the ps3. I want to know if it is actually 1080p or if it somehow downscaled it to 1080i or 720p. Thanks surrounded by advance for your assistance

Answers:    NO your set cannot display it, your ps3 will out put at 1080p unless you set it to another resolution. your tv will recognize that it is surrounded by 1080 p but it will have to down convert it to what ever resolution it have nativly (most likely 1366x768) find out what the aboriginal rez of your set is and set your ps3 to the one closest to it. If your tv is 1366*768 or less set it to seven twenty if its 1280x1080 or 1920x1080 set it to 1080i and you will obtain a slighlty better picture then what you are looking at very soon
