What is the proper name for the input jack on an LCD TV that allows you to connect your computer to it?
Want to buy a TV off ebay but want to make sure it is equipped with it as some are not.
Answer:
VGA
it would have to be the S-Video thingy but it depends all on what kind of video card you have on your computer, it could be a standard cable to the Digital Video to VGA to maybe the Video/Audio Connectors...
You will want to look for either a VGA or a DVI connection.
you can look and see if your lcd tv has an vga input on it, also you can see if it has S-video input then buy an s-video cable to connect the two,theres also HDMI inputs, but like s video you will need a specialized card or graphics card to connect the two
Okay I'll give you both, but with a caveat;
The REAL names for the jack is HD15. The most accepted and also most inaccurate name is simply VGA. Now VGA refers to Video Graphics Array which is several generations back in the food chain of computer display protocols. Now here is the warning; make sure the TV/Monitor can display the signal your computer is putting out. If the native resolution is 1280 x 1024 pixels and the TV is only capable of displaying 1024 x 768 pixels you've got temporarily a messed up picture and probably some burned out circuits later on down the road. You can adjust the display properties of your laptop to a lower resolution but it may affect the LCD screen on the laptop also. Get the model number of the unit you are interested in buying and GOOGLE it. Notice I shouted GOOGLE and not Live Search or the dreaded Y!. Once you find the model download the user's manual and see what the resolution is. Also, make sure that the model for sale on eBay is NTSC and not SECAM or PAL. Won't do you a damn bit of good here as far as TV goes.
