What is the function of a HDMI input on my bright telly?

I only got a unknown telly and have worked out evrything except What a HDMI input is and what can be conected to it can you help out me out as it intreaging me to find out

a scart organize - but for high definition

if you hold never seen elevated def video before and you own a mid range flat eyeshade monitor, google for high definition clips - the detail is stunning depending on your notebook spec it may be jerky but its not the motion you will be looking at
You can see High Definition TV or HD DVD or Blu Ray content, or plug in a PS3 or XBox 360 into them.
