Composite video cable does not work anymore: is it possible?

I have a composite video cable to connect my TV and my PVR. I bought it 4 years ago. Today, it looks like it's not working properly anymore. The colors are all faded. When I replace it with a RCA cable, colors are fine. I was wondering: what are the odds of a compositive video cable breaking down? I thought it would work a lifetime.

Answer:
Four years is the lifetime of your cables . Go buy new ones.
