Go with LCD! Plasma quality is amazing, but you get more bang for you dollar by buying an lcd. They last longer, are less fragile, offer just as good picture quality, and you dont have the fear of screen burn in that plasmas have.
its all in preference but the truth be told they can use about the same power depending on what you watch, so power consumption shouldn't be your focus. LCD and Plasma have about the same life span of about 60,000 hours. However plasma's to my knowledge dont offer 1080p, as LCD's do. Plasmas are about 75 percent heavier than LCD's. But in a dark room Plasma's look better with the deeper blacks than LCD's. If the room is gonna have any kind of light Plasma's reflect the light off the screen and it will annoy the crap out of you, as LCD's dont reflect the light. So it really depends on the type of room your gonna have the tv in. In my opinion i would go with a LCD that is 1080p just so your future proofing for the next gen dvd such as Blu-ray or HD-DVD. as I said earlier the life span for both is about 60,000 hours.
