Answer:
I own that exact TV and it is very nice. The only complaint I have is in how it plays non-HD channels, but as I am learning, that is the same for most all HDTV's (though the high end Sony LCD has a computer processor that greatly improves that and honestly, if I had to do it over again I would have purchased a much smaller TV for similar dollars just to have that function).

That point made, this TV is fantastic on HD channels and simply unbelievable when playing Blu-ray movies. When I first hooked up my PS3 and made the adjustment in the PS3 settings from 480I to !080P - WOW! It is a completely new experience and a completely new game!! I just can't say enough about the quality of the HD!

OH!! And yes there is a big difference between 1080I and 1080P! It can't be noticed on a still picture or durinbg a slowly panned scene... But wherever speed comes into play (car chases, sports, action scenes, etc.) there is a huge difference between the blur of 1080I and the absolute perfection of 1080P. And if you didn't know... this TV has a built-in optimizer that will automatically upgrade 1080I transmissions (i.e. many HD cable channels) to crystal clear 1080P.

Bottom line... Think how much you will be watching standard cable channels as they will look worse than whatever TV you are using now. If you can live with that, then this is a great TV. If you can't, then the high end Sony is the only one that I know that will help improve it. Seriously, before you throw your money out there, insist on having a demonstration of standard cable channels. If they ALL still look good during the demo, then your being had... Because thedy will all look like crap. it's the big conspiracy the sales reps don't want you to know... HDTV's look like crap when playing 90% of the channels you watch.

Oh, and check Best Buy on-line. I bought mine for around $2K without extended warranty but including delivery.
I purchased a $800 HITACHI projection TV with 1080i.
Their 65 inch is $1500.

1080i versus 1080P...some claim you don't see a difference.Some say you do.

I NOTICED THE SALESMEN AT CIRCUIT CITY DIDN'T HAVE MY 1080i unit plugged into the Hi Definition signal..
Not because it looks like crap..but because they CAN'T SELL a $2500 1080P TV when a $900 HITACHI 51F59 Does the SAME JOB!!

Right PEACHY??
(He used to work for them..

I don't sell TVs, I just fix them)

SO.should you buy the Mitsubishi 1080P?
Do they have a 1080 i unit from Mitsubishi?
You'll save money with that.

The ONLY TIME you need 1080 P is if you must CONFORM to the man that pays your bills.ie Jetson sucking up to Mr Spacely.
I almost bought that same television but after some reseach I purchased the Toshiba 56". The mitsubishi has the most input options over all the tvs I looked into but the toshiba was rated a best buy by consumer reports. The best features on the mitsubishi are the dual HD tuners it comes with along with the extensive connection capabilities.multiple HDMI, component, Digital coax & fiber optic sound outputs. Take a long look at the features and then decide which ones are most important to you before you buy. Always, and I mean always, buy some type of protection plan on these large televisions. I used to work at best buy and saw so many of them being brought back because of malfuntions or pixel problems. It will save you major dollars down the road if anything happens.
