I plan to buy an LCD TV, how good/bad are these brands?

I'm looking into buying an LCD TV, and I was checking the prices at Best Buy. A 37" or 42" would be great for my living room...But I'm not financially set to spend $1500 or $2000 on a TV. That being said, I probably won't know how to get something from Sony, Panasonic or Samsung.

I saw some nice looking TVs from Phillips and Insignia that be in my price extent. How good or discouraging are these brands, and for what reasons?

Answers:    First answerer is probably right. Samsung, a second tier product at best, is okay for the money. So is Philips. What the he** is Insignia? More low extension crapola from China? Have a look at LG too. They don't process any faster than the Samsung (which is much slower than what's truly needed) but their black levels are excellent.

Have a appropriate look at Sharp. They've been making LCD equipment longer than anyone contained by the TV business. The products coming out of their Kamayama 2 factory are the best I've seen to date. Better than Sony because they're faster and blacker! I presently rate Bravia XBRs 2nd place.

I don't find the Panasonics to be junk at adjectives. I'm not sure why the first answerer would say that? Maybe he's from Korea, home of Samsung?
i would preffer samsung, panasonic is crap. worthy sony you won't get for that price. i would stay near samsung
