I have basic cable, but the signal ranges from clear to awful. What would you reccomend to improve the reception? It is an older TV, but buying a new one is out.

ANYTIME I hear cable reception VARIES..some channels are Clear, other channels are AWFUL.that tells me the problem is a broken RF wire.
So is the TV the only one in your home? If not, is the OTHER TV ok?
Then the BAD wire would be between the Bad TV and the MAIN Wire coming into the home...Since CABLE does repairs on their wiring FREE..it's best to let them find the bad wire.
