Seeing the top of the peak during a football winter sport on a HDTV?

HI, just bought a up to date 42" HDTV and while watching a football game, the top of the peak cuts off the gain of the game. Nothing I seem to be to do can shrink the screen a bit so I can see the scoreboard at the top. Is nearby a way to fix it, or am I stuck watching the winter sport or other show and missing the top...I got an Insignia 42" LCD HDTV...Thanks
