Do plasma TVs last longer then the other TVs?
Answer:
Im not sure. Ive never slept with one
Its about the same.
Today's plasma TVs have a projected life of 60,000 hours before they're only half as bright as when they were new. That's 20+ years at 7 hours a day (which is the average daily viewing time per U.S. household).
This is the same for all LCD TVs and traditional tube/CRT TVs.
Older Plasma TVs were design to last about 10,000 to 20,000 viewing hours.

The plasma technology has gotten better over the past few years. I would say you could get 15 years tops out of one if you keep it in a controlled environment, not too hot or too cold.
I personally wouldn't recommend one, but that's just my opinion. I have a Samsung rear projection that had a power supply issue last February. I had to have someone come and fix it. I think once a plasma burns out it's done, but I'm not totally sure on that one.
Plasma tvs at this time don't last any longer than CRT tvs they are both aproximately the same life span of about 20yrs of average usage although older models won't last that long and there is new technology involving laser plasma screens which are supposed to last longer but they are not yet available they are still in development. DLP sets although I don't know how long the actual set lasts I know they need new bulbs every 5yrs or so. LCD depends on make and model and how you use them manty will last longer than CRT screens but some have soft fronts which if it gets knocked around too much will reduce life expectancy so if you go with lcd just look for one that you can touch the screen and doesn't alter the picture and you should be set.
