Magnetic effect on Sony 29" televison.?
Answer:
You could block the magnetism from the magnets by using a piece of mu metal, but I don't think it's going to be easy or cheap to get what you need. Otherwise, you'll have to install some other non-magnetic type of switch. Here's more:

best advise remove the magnets
MORE TESTING is required...
Remove the magnetic catcher..Turn on the TV and watch it.
If it comes back again, you may have a WARPED shadow mask.a warped mask will look normal when the TV is cold, then as the TV gets about 10 to 30 minutes of run-time, a certain color-blob will appear on the EDGE of the TV and grow.and grow.and grow.
Sometimes they appear a little "off of center" and do the growing.
In your case, even the darkening can be a warped shadow mask...
I think the REAL key is the Degausser would NEGATE the magnetic catches upon turn on and would still negate them afterwards..but if you REMOVE them, then there's no question they have NO EFFECT ON THE TV.
Get out your screwdriver..
If the color/shading >>returns<< after catcher removal.kiss that picture tube goodbye.
IF it doesn't return..either REMOUNT the catches farther away from the CRT or come up with a Velcro-based catch mechanism
