My TV has just blown up, its only 3 month old. If i take it back to Comet with no receipt will i get a new one
Answer:
Comet cannot insist on seeing a receipt because by law they don't have to issue a receipt. Proof of purchase such as a bank statement etc... will do. No doubt they could recall the transaction/your details on their system.
Also, after a reasonable time (approx 30 days) the shop is entitled to repair the item at their cost. They are also obliged to collect it from you. They, by law, can have your TV for upto 30 days to repair it. After that period, they may loan you one until you receive yours back.
Don't be an **** with them and they should sort you. You might find that they may have a better policy when it comes to repairs and exchanges so be nice to them.
I worked in retail as a store manager for 15 years and dealt with trading standards alot. So as long as you have proof of purchase (own brand packaging is proof!) it'll get sorted.
yes bring it back
actually, if you wanted to you could sue for MILLIONS.
you know, 'cause thats not supposed to happen
...and its dangerous
well i would definately take it back. double check you dont have receipt. you may even see the salesperson that sold you it when you go back. dont let them fob you off by them telling you that you cant get new one. they can refuse refund with no receipt but not exchange.
Not if you poured tea in it!
It should still have a warranty from the maker. So Comet will have to get in touch with them. Not sure they will replace it though. Will probably offer to send it to be fixed/looked at.
I'd take it back - make sure you are firm and tell them that you aren't happy and want it replaced - be firm. Good luck
If you paid by credit or debit card maybe that proof of purchase would help?
Not sure of your legal rights, might have to go direct to the manufacturer if the shop definitly won't help
if you got a box and all that, put it in.go in there on a saturday when there are loads of people and start to kick up a fuss...that normally works..
I would be inclined to phone up trading standards first and tell them just what happened and they will explain what to do next. Might sound simple but unless you know your rights they (Comet) will tie you up in knots.
Good luck and don't let them grind you down.
Is your TV a phillips by any chance.?
They will prolly say take it to the manufacturer. Which when you pay cheap to junk electronics, youll find out that there are no warranty places!
how did you pay, if it was by debit card then use a bank statement to prove it, or if its by credit card use that statement. i would phone them and ask . did you fill in the guarantee you would have had with it.
You definitely need proof of purchase,A bank statement perhaps?
By Law, in the UK anyone buying a TV / Video or DVD Recorder, has to complete and sign a declaration that they have a TV licence. This should be retained by the Retailer and a copy sent on the the Statutory Authority (In this case the TV Licencing People.)
This is to say that Comet will have full details of your purchase even if you paid cash.
Have you actually been into comet to ask!!!, As you have just said " my tv has JUST blown up ".
Have you phoned their call centre?!?!?! to find out what Comet can do for you?!?!?!?!?.
Have you looked on the comet website?!?!?!?!?
If you actually go into the SAME store that you brought it from without the receipt, they can use the computer to look up old sales, this will confirm date of purchase etc.
Best thing to do is call comet call centre, ask for the store you brought it from, then explain you sitation to them...and guess what will happen.YES IT WILL BE SORTED
