Do I need a new roof ariel for freeview tv?

I have a 40" lcd tv with built in freeview but can't get a signal. My aerial is only 2 1/2 years old. Any one else had this problem? I thought it worked off the existing aerial.

Answer:
The theory is sound. It depends where you are. There is a website which gives an indication of whether you can receive digital TV but not what equipment you need to receive it properly. Also things change like new buildings going up in the signal path. Try an aerial amplifier. If that doesn't help then you are into a new twig and masthead pre-amp on your chimney.
Just to let u know I have a feeview box and I just use an indoor aerial and it works really well dont know if this helps u.
If you can access your freeview tuner it should show you the strength of the signal from your ariel. If it`s weak you will have to upgrade , or get a booster/amplifier for you ariel.
if you have a wideband aerial already on the roof, thats the long stick type you may need to change the cable to digital cable.
check the tv menu for signal strength first.if ok retune as per instructions.
you can do a quick check by connecting analogue tv to see if you are getting reception.if you are getting pictures then you must be able to receive digital.
