Whats the difference between and LCD rear projection and a DLP? Which is better and why?
Answer:
the nice thing about DLP, and things change so fast, is that it is just one bulb, and when it breaks you just change the bulb
also look in LCOS, they have a better picture according to some people,
if you want a side by side comparison go to the store and take a look
also Crutchfield.com explains it pretty well, but the truth is at the end of the day it is up you your eyes
DLP cons: SOME People See an annoying "Rainbow Effect on DLP images" where brief flashes of perceived red, blue, and green "shadows" appear on bright images. Also DLP have spinning color wheels which have been known to break and need Repair.
LCD Cons: DLP's are generally considered to produce truer looking Blacks than LCD's. Also over time LCD pannels can degrade and give the image a yellowish tint.
I'm Sorry there isn't a more clear-cut answer, but the technologies are both pretty even. If you plan to keep this TV for many years to come I would buy the DLP, but just know that you may have to deal with some repairs. In terms of the Rainbow effect, more recent TVs are getting better at preventing them.
If you don't like to deal with those types of problems, go with the LCD.
Some Supplementary Reading:
In Terms of Technology, DLP stands for Digital Light Processing, and sets have a single chip and a rotating filter that chops white light from a lamp into a sequence of red, green, and blue beams. These beams are then Combined to for the colors on the Screen
In an LCD (liquid-crystal display) projection TV, light from a single lamp is directed to a trio of miniature LCD panels that process the red, green, and blue light components separately.
