The best thing to do is to check the on-board menu, under settings, to find out if it is HD or not. The easiset way to tell by looking at the unit, is to look at the back, for an HDMI plug. It weill look kind of like a large USB port connection. If there is one there, then you probably have HD.

In order for me to know for sure, I would have to have the model number of the unit, and I can look it up on my service D-Base, for tv repair. If you would like for me to do this for you, I can, (at no cost, since it is sunday) just drop an e-mail to dynamicelectron@yahoo.com, with the model number, and I will see what I can do about getting an answer for you , within an hour.
take it back u got riped off
Usually they have an HD Ready sticker on them somewhere. Check the back for the HD input port. The TV won't play HD unless it is supplied from an HD source such as a Sky HD satellite receiver tuned to an HD channel.
Have you subscribed to an HD channel ?

Your tv is only hd when you watch an HD channel..
Check the model on the manufacturers website - there should be a model number somewhere on the TV. That will be more reliable than information you get from Argos - then if it turns out not to be an HD TV, you have evidence to go back to Argos with (along with their e mail stating that it is).
it must be stuff from the grey market which was sold to you as HD
What is the TV model?

My TV is HD and was advertised as being it, but when I received it, there is no mention of it in the manual or box either.

I wouldn't worry too much, but look at the inputs available for it. Is there VGA/ DVI / HDMI / Component? If any of these are present, then chances are your TV is HD.

Then again, unless you are connecting something to it that is HD then you won't know, or does it matter in the short term. A HDTV won't make standard images (from tv or DVD etc) look any better, but possibly worse.

Get something with a HD input and test it!
take it back it sounds you have been missold a product under false advertising sue them i would
or at least get some compensation
if you have a menu button, just click the display to see what resolution if any it has,if there is any information about the resolution, then its hd,because standard TV's don't have that information.
...and this is why you should never buy cheapo electronics from Argos...
I am not sure if the TV you purchased is HD or not, but I do know that the if the signal being broadcast isn't in HD format, the picture on the TV will not be in high definition. Also your cable box/satellite receiver needs to be HD compatible. If it isn't, again you won't get the HD picture.
